Devoted to Christ and his teachings, the founders of Vineyard shaped an opportunity for students to be challenged academically, spiritually and socially. Its mission was to support a staff that would teach, mentor and inspire, and to partner with Christian churches and families in the preparing of children for a life in God's kingdom.

 

Vineyard Christian Middle School was dedicated in a joyous celebration, and opened its doors to students for the first time on August 24, 2004. On the grounds of the old Woodbridge Middle School campus, Vineyard occupied five portables for the first two years. In a uniquely cooperative relationship with Lodi Unified School District, VCMS was successful in operating as a Christian middle school drawing students from Lodi and the surrounding communities.  In the first two years, over fifty students graduated from the eighth grade and entered Lodi, Tokay, Jim Elliott, and St. Mary's High schools.

 

After much prayer and an extensive search, the perfect opportunity availed itself. The pastor and congregation of Lodi Avenue Baptist Church opened their hearts and made a place for Vineyard Christian Middle School on their campus. Just two months after the two-year anniversary of VCMS, students entered refurbished portables at a new address. After a short beginning of classes held at Micke Grove Regional Park, the school continued on October 22, 2006, at the Lodi Avenue location. Interestingly enough, documents recovered from church archives revealed plans for a school on the very site, plans drawn nearly forty years ago.

 

Presently, Vineyard celebrates much. With a devoted staff of six, a full roster of young people, a committed school board, trusting families, and support from the community, that same faith and dedication that created the concept remains the driving force behind the success. God's plan for the school continues to keep those involved working hard, humble and focused on preparing children for His kingdom.
